Matthew 14:1-21

At that time Herod the tetrarch heard the reports about Jesus, and he said to his attendants, "This is ; he has risen from the dead! That is why miraculous powers are at work in him."

Now Herod had arrested John and bound him and put him in prison because of Herodias, his brother Philip's wife, for John had been saying to him: "It is not lawful for you to have her."

Herod wanted to kill John, but he was afraid of the people, because they considered him a prophet.

On Herod's birthday the daughter of Herodias danced for them and pleased Herod so much that he promised with an oath to give her whatever she asked.

Prompted by her mother, she said, "Give me here on a platter the head of John the Baptist."

The king was distressed, but because of his oaths and his dinner guests, he ordered that her request be granted and had John beheaded in the prison.

His head was brought in on a platter and given to the girl, who carried it to her mother.

John's disciples came and took his body and buried it. Then they went and told Jesus.

When Jesus heard what had happened, he withdrew by boat privately to a solitary place. Hearing of this, the crowds followed him on foot from the towns.

When Jesus landed and saw a large crowd, he had compassion on them and healed their sick.

As evening approached, the disciples came to him and said, "This is a remote place, and it's already getting late. Send the crowds away, so they can go to the villages and buy themselves some food."

Jesus replied, "They do not need to go away. You give them something to eat."

"We have here only five loaves of bread and two fish," they answered.

"Bring them here to me," he said.

And he directed the people to sit down on the grass. Taking the five loaves and the two fish and looking up to heaven, he gave thanks and broke the loaves. Then he gave them to the disciples, and the disciples gave them to the people.

They all ate and were satisfied, and the disciples picked up twelve basketful s of broken pieces that were left over.

The number of those who ate was about five thousand men, besides women and children.

Have you ever wondered what happened to the 56 men who

Signed the Declaration of Independence?

Five signers were captured by the British as traitors, and tortured

Before they died.

Twelve had their homes ransacked and burned. Two lost their sons serving

In the Revolutionary Army; another had two sons captured.

Nine of the 56 fought and died from wounds or hardships of the

Revolutionary War.

They signed and they pledged their lives, their fortunes, and their

Sacred honor.

What kind of men were they?

Twenty-four were lawyers and jurists. Eleven were merchants, nine were

Farmers and large plantation owners; men of means, well educated, but

They signed the Declaration of Independence knowing full well that the

Penalty would be death if they were captured. Carter Braxton of

Virginia, a wealthy planter and trader, saw his ships swept from the

Seas by the British Navy. He sold his home and properties to pay his

Debts, and died in rags.

Thomas McKeam was so hounded by the British that he was forced to move

His family almost constantly. He served in the Congress without pay, and

His family was kept in hiding. His possessions were taken from him, and

Poverty was his reward.

Vandals or soldiers looted the properties of Dillery, Hall, Clymer,

Walton, Gwinnett, Heyward, Ruttledge, and Middleton.

At the battle of Yorktown, Thomas Nelson, Jr., noted that the British

General Cornwallis had taken over the Nelson home for his headquarters.

He quietly urged General George Washington to open fire. The home was

Destroyed, and Nelson died bankrupt.

Francis Lewis had his home and properties destroyed. The enemy jailed

His wife, and she died within a few months.

John Hart was driven from his wife's bedside as she was dying. Their 13

Children fled for their lives. His fields and his gristmill were laid to

Waste. For more than a year he lived in forests and caves, returning

Home to find his wife dead and his children vanished. Some of us take

These liberties so much for granted, but we shouldn't.

So, take a few minutes while enjoying your 4th of July holiday and

Silently thank these patriots. It's not much to ask for the price they

TO ALL THE KIDS WHO SURVIVED THE

1930's, 40's, 50's, 60's and 70's!!

First, we survived being born to mothers who smoked and/or drank while they were pregnant.

They took aspirin, ate blue cheese dressing, tuna from a can and didn't get tested for diabetes.

Then after that trauma, we were put to sleep on our tummies in baby cribs covered with bright colored lead-base paints.

We had no childproof lids on medicine bottles, locks on doors or cabinets and when we rode our bikes, we had baseball caps not helmets on our heads.

As infants & children, we would ride in cars with no car seats, no booster seats, no seat belts, no air bags, bald tires and sometimes no brakes.

Riding in the back of a pick- up truck on a warm day was always a special treat.

We drank water from the garden hose and not from a bottle.

We shared one soft drink with four friends, from one bottle and no one actually died from this.

We ate cupcakes, white bread, real butter and bacon. We drank Kool-Aid made with real white sugar. And, we weren't overweight. WHY?

Because we were always outside playing....that's why!

We would leave home in the morning and play all day, as long as we were back when the streetlights came on.

No one was able to reach us all day. And, we were O.K.

We would spend hours building our go-carts out of scraps and then ride them down the hill, only to find out we forgot the brakes. After running into the bushes a few times,we learned to solve the problem.

We did not have Playstations, Nintendo's and X-boxes. There were no video games, no 150 channels on cable, no video movies or DVD's, no surround-sound or CD's, no cell phones, no personal computers, no Internet and no chat rooms.

WE HAD FRIENDS and we went outside and found them!

We fell out of trees, got cut, broke bones and teeth and there were no lawsuits from these accidents.

We ate worms and mud pies made from dirt, and the worms did not live in us forever.

We were given BB guns for our 10th birthdays, made up games with sticks and tennis balls and, although we were told it would happen, we did not put out very
many eyes.

We rode bikes or walked to a friend's house and knocked on the door or rang the bell, or just walked in and talked to them.

Little League had tryouts and not everyone made the team. Those who didn't had to learn to deal with disappointment.

Imagine that!!

The idea of a parent bailing us out if we broke the law was unheard of. They actually sided with the law!

These generations have produced some of the best risk-takers, problem solvers and inventors ever.

The past 50 years have been an explosion of innovation and new ideas.

We had freedom, failure, success and responsibility, and we learned how to deal with it all.
If YOU are one of them? CONGRATULATIONS!

You might want to share this with others who have had the luck to grow up as kids, before the lawyers and the government regulated so much of our lives for our own good.

While you are at it, forward it to your kids so they will know how brave and lucky their parents were.

Kind of makes you want to run through the house with scissors, doesn't it ?

They who love God with all their hearts, find that His ways are ways of pleasantness, and all His paths are peace. You all remember Sheriff Joe Arpaio of Arizona , who painted the jail cells pink and made the inmates wear pink prison garb. Well..........

Oh, there's MUCH more to know about Sheriff Joe!

Maricopa County was spending approx.. $18 million dollars a year on stray animals, like cats and dogs. Sheriff Joe offered to take the department over, and the County Supervisors said okay.

The animal shelters are now all staffed and operated by prisoners. They feed and care for the strays. Every animal in his care is taken out and walked twice daily. He now has prisoners who are experts in animal nutrition and behavior. They give great classes for anyone who'd like to adopt an animal. He has literally taken stray dog s off the street, given them to the care of prisoners, and had them place in dog shows.

The best part? His budget for the entire department is now under $3 million. Teresa and I adopted a Weimaraner from a Maricopa County shelter two years ago.. He was neutered and current on all shots, in great health, and even had a microchip inserted the day we got him. Cost us $78.

The prisoners get the benefit of about $0.28 an hour for working, but most would work for free, just to be out of their cells for the day. Most of his budget is for utilities, building maintenance,20etc. He pays the prisoners out of the fees collected for adopted animals..

I have long wondered when the rest of the country would take a look at the way he runs the jail system and copy some of his ideas. He has a huge farm, donated to the county years ago, where inmates can work, and they grow most of their own fresh vegetables and food, doing all the work and harvesting by hand.

He has a pretty good sized hog farm, which provides meat and fertilizer.... It fertilizes the Christmas tree nursery, where prisoners work, and you can buy a living Christmas tree for $6 - $8 for the holidays and plant it later. We have six trees in our yard from the prison.

Yup, he was re-elected last year with 83% of the vote.

Now he's in trouble with the ACLU again. He painted all his buses and vehicles with a mural that has a special hotline phone number painted on it, where you can call and report suspected il legal aliens. Immigrations and Customs Enforcement wasn't doing enough in his eyes, so he had 40 deputies trained specifically for enforcing immigration laws, started up his hotline, and bought 4 new buses just for hauling folks back to the border. He's kind of a 'Git-R Dun' kind of Sheriff.

TO THOSE OF YOU NOT FAMILIAR WITH JOE ARPAIO..

HE IS THE MARICOPA ARIZONA COUNTY SHERIFF

AND HE KEEPS GETTING ELECTED OVER AND OVER.

THIS IS ONE OF THE REASONS WHY:

Sheriff Joe Arpaio (in Arizona ) who created the 'Tent City Jail':

**He has jail meals down to 40 cents a serving and charges the inmates for them.

**He stopped smoking and porno magazines in the jails. **Took away their weights.

**Cut off all but 'G' movies.

**He started chain gangs so the inmates could do free work on county and city projects.

**Then he started chain gangs for women so he wouldn't get sued for discrimination.

**He took away cable TV until he found out there was a federal court order that required cable TV for jails, so he hooked up the cable TV again........BUT only let in the Disney channel and the Weather channel.

**When asked why the weather channel, he replied, "So they will know how hot it's gonna be while they are working

on my chain gangs."

**He cut off coffee since it has zero nutritional value.

**When the inmates complained, he told them, "This isn't The Ritz/Carlton....... If you don't like it, don't come back."

More On The Arizona Sheriff: With temperatures being even hotter than usual in Phoenix (116 degrees just set a new record), the Associated Press reports:

About 2,000 inmates living in a barbed-wire-surrounded tent encampment at the Maricopa County jail have been given permission to strip down to their government-issued

pink boxer shorts.

On Wednesday, hundreds of men wearing boxers were either curled up on their bunk beds or chatted in the tents, which reached 138 degrees inside the week before.

Many were also swathed in wet, pink towels as sweat collected on their chests and dripped down to their PINK SOCKS.

"It feels like we are in a furnace," said James Zanzot, an inmate who has lived in the TENTS for 1 year. "It's inhumane."

Joe Arpaio, the tough-guy sheriff who created the tent city and long ago started making his prisoners wear pink and eat bologna sandwiches, is not one bit sympathetic. He said Wednesday that he told all of the inmates, "It's 120 degrees in Iraq and our soldiers are living in tents too, and they have to20wear full battle gear, but they didn't commit any crimes, so shut your m ouths!"

Way to go, Sheriff!

Maybe if all prisons were like this one there would be a lot less crime and/or repeat offenders. Criminals should be punished for their crimes - not live in luxury until it's time for their parole, only to go out and commit another crime so they can get back in to live on taxpayers' money and enjoy things taxpayers can't afford to have for themselves.

A wealthy man and his son loved to collect rare works of art. They had everything in their collection, from Picasso to Raphael. They would often sit together and admire the great works of art.
When the Vietnam conflict broke out, the son went to war. He was very courageous and died in battle while rescuing another soldier. The father was notified and grieved deeply for his only son.
About a month later, just before Christmas,
There was a knock at the door. A young man stood at the door with a large package in his hands.

He said, 'Sir, you don't know me, but I am the soldier for whom your son gave his life. He saved many lives that day, and he was carrying me to safety when a bullet struck him in the heart and he died instantly. He often talked about you, and your love for art.' The young man held out this package. 'I know this isn't much. I'm not really a great artist, but I think your son would have wanted you to have this.'
The father
Opened the package. It was a portrait of his son, painted by the young man. He stared in awe at the way the soldier had captured the personality of his son in the painting. The father was so drawn to the eyes that his own eyes welled up with tears. He thanked the young man and offered to pay him for the picture. 'Oh, no sir, I could never repay what your son did for me. It's a gift.'
The father hung the portrait over his mantle. Every time visitors came to his home he took them to see the portrait of his son before he showed them any of the other great works he had collected.
The man died a few months later. There was to be a great auction of his paintings. Many influential people gathered, excited over seeing the great paintings and having an opportunity to purchase one for their collection.
On the platform sat the painting of the son. The auctioneer pounded his gavel. 'We will start the bidding with this picture of the son. Who will bid for this picture?'
There was silence.
Then a voice in the back of the room shouted, 'We want to see the famous paintings. Skip this one.'
But the auctioneer persisted. 'Will somebody bid for this painting? Who will start the bidding? $100, $200?'
Another voice angrily. 'We didn't come to see this painting. We came to see the Van Gogh's, the Rembrandts. Get on with the
Real bids!'
But still the auctioneer continued. 'The son! The son! Who'll take the son?'
Finally, a voice came from the very back of the room It was the longtime gardener of the man and his son. 'I'll give $10 for the painting..' Being a poor man, it was all he could afford.
'We have $10, who will bid $20?'
'Give it to him for $10. Let's see the masters.'
The crowd was becoming angry. They didn't want the picture of the son.
They wanted the more worthy investments for their collections.
The auctioneer pounded the gavel. 'Going once, twice, SOLD for $10!'
A man sitting on the second row shouted, 'Now let's get on with the collection!'
The auctioneer laid down his gavel. 'I'm sorry, the auction is over.'
'What about the paintings?'
'I am sorry. When I was called to conduct this auction, I was told of a secret stipulation in the will. I was not allowed to reveal that stipulation until this time. Only the painting of the son would be auctioned. Whoever bought that painting would inherit the entire estate, including the paintings.
The man who took the son gets everything!'
God gave His son 2,000 years ago to die on the cross. Much like the auctioneer, His message today is: 'The son, the son, who'll take the son?'
Because, you see, whoever takes the Son gets everything.

We go to Christ for forgiveness, and then too often look to the law for power to fight our sins. Paul thus rebukes us, "O foolish Galatians, who hath bewitched you, that ye should not obey the truth? This only would I learn of you, Received ye the Spirit by the works of the law, or by the hearing of faith? are ye so foolish? having begun in the Spirit, are ye now made perfect by the flesh?" Take your sins to Christ's cross, for the old man can only be crucified there: we are crucified with Him. The only weapon to fight sin with is the spear which pierced the side of Jesus. To give an illustration--you want to overcome an angry temper, how do you go to work? It is very possible you have never tried the right way of going to Jesus with it. How did I get salvation? I came to Jesus just as I was, and I trusted Him to save me. I must kill my angry temper in the same way? It is the only way in which I can ever kill it. I must go to the cross with it, and say to Jesus, "Lord, I trust Thee to deliver me from it." This is the only way to give it a death-blow. Are you covetous? Do you feel the world entangle you? You may struggle against this evil so long as you please, but if it be your besetting sin, you will never be delivered from it in any way but by the blood of Jesus. Take it to Christ. Tell Him, "Lord, I have trusted Thee, and Thy name is Jesus, for Thou dost save Thy people from their sins; Lord, this is one of my sins; save me from it!" Ordinances are nothing without Christ as a means of mortification. Your prayers, and your repentance's, and your tears--the whole of them put together--are worth nothing apart from Him. "None but Jesus can do helpless sinners good;" or helpless saints either. You must be conquerors through Him who hath loved you, if conquerors at all. Our laurels must grow among His olives in Gethsemane.

"I am poured out like water, and all my bones are out of joint." --Psalm 22:14

Did earth or heaven ever behold a sadder spectacle of woe! In soul and body, our Lord felt Himself to be weak as water poured upon the ground. The placing of the cross in its socket had shaken Him with great violence, had strained all the ligaments, pained every nerve, and more or less dislocated all His bones. Burdened with His own weight, the august sufferer felt the strain increasing every moment of those six long hours. His sense of faintness and general weakness were overpowering; while to His own consciousness He became nothing but a mass of misery and swooning sickness. When Daniel saw the great vision, he thus describes his sensations, "There remained no strength in me, for my vigour was turned into corruption, and I retained no strength:" how much more faint must have been our greater Prophet when He saw the dread vision of the wrath of God, and felt it in His own soul! To us, sensations such as our Lord endured would have been insupportable, and kind unconsciousness would have come to our rescue; but in His case, He was wounded, and felt the sword; He drained the cup and tasted every drop.

"O King of Grief! (a title strange, yet true To Thee of all kings only due) O King of Wounds! how shall I grieve for Thee, Who in all grief preventest me!"

As we kneel before our now ascended Saviour's throne, let us remember well the way by which He prepared it as a throne of grace for us; let us in spirit drink of His cup, that we may be strengthened for our hour of heaviness whenever it may come. In His natural body every member suffered, and so must it be in the spiritual; but as out of all His griefs and woes His body came forth uninjured to glory and power, even so shall His mystical body come through the furnace with not so much as the smell of fire upon it.

It is well for us when prayers about our sorrows are linked with pleas concerning our sins--when, being under God's hand, we are not wholly taken up with our pain, but remember our offenses against God. It is well, also, to take both sorrow and sin to the same place. It was to God that David carried his sorrow: it was to God that David confessed his sin. Observe, then, we must take our sorrows to God. Even your little sorrows you may roll upon God, for He counteth the hairs of your head; and your great sorrows you may commit to Him, for He holdeth the ocean in the hollow of His hand. Go to Him, whatever your present trouble may be, and you shall find Him able and willing to relieve you. But we must take our sins to God too. We must carry them to the cross, that the blood may fall upon them, to purge away their guilt, and to destroy their defiling power.

The special lesson of the text is this:--that we are to go to the Lord with sorrows and with sins in the right spirit. Note that all David asks concerning his sorrow is, "Look upon mine affliction and my pain;" but the next petition is vastly more express, definite, decided, plain--"Forgive all my sins" Many sufferers would have put it, "Remove my affliction and my pain, and look at my sins." But David does not say so; he cries, "Lord, as for my affliction and my pain, I will not dictate to Thy wisdom. Lord, look at them, I will leave them to Thee, I should be glad to have my pain removed, but do as Thou wilt; but as for my sins, Lord, I know what I want with them; I must have them forgiven; I cannot endure to lie under their curse for a moment." A Christian counts sorrow lighter in the scale than sin; he can bear that his troubles should continue, but he cannot support the burden of his transgressions.

As the Father loves the Son, in the same manner Jesus loves His people. What is that divine method? He loved Him without beginning, and thus Jesus loves His members. "I have loved thee with an everlasting love." You can trace the beginning of human affection; you can easily find the beginning of your love to Christ, but His love to us is a stream whose source is hidden in eternity. God the Father loves Jesus without any change. Christian, take this for your comfort, that there is no change in Jesus Christ's love to those who rest in Him. Yesterday you were on Tabor's top, and you said, "He loves me:" to-day you are in the valley of humiliation, but He loves you still the same. On the hill Mizar, and among the Hermons, you heard His voice, which spake so sweetly with the turtle-notes of love; and now on the sea, or even in the sea, when all His waves and billows go over you, His heart is faithful to His ancient choice. The Father loves the Son without any end, and thus does the Son love His people. Saint, thou needed not fear the loosing of the silver cord, for His love for thee will never cease. Rest confident that even down to the grave Christ will go with you, and that up again from it He will be your guide to the celestial hills. Moreover, the Father loves the Son without any measure, and the same immeasurable love the Son bestows upon His chosen ones. The whole heart of Christ is dedicated to His people. He "loved us and gave Himself for us." His is a love which passeth knowledge. Ah! we have indeed an immutable Savior, a precious Savior, one who loves without measure, without change, without beginning, and without end, even as the Father loves Him! There is much food here for those who know how to digest it. May the Holy Ghost lead us into its marrow and fatness!

A holy man was having a conversation with God one day and
said, "God, I would like to know what Heaven and Hell are like."

God led the holy man to two doors.  He opened one of the doors and the holy man looked in.

In the middle of the room was a large round table. In the middle of the table was a large pot of stew, which smelled delicious and made the holy man's mouth water.

The people sitting around the table were thin and sickly. They appeared to be famished.

They were holding spoons with very long handles that were strapped to their arms and each found it possible to reach into the pot of stew and take a spoonful.  But because the handle was longer than their arms; they could not get the spoons back into their mouths.

The holy man shuddered at the sight of their misery and suffering.

God said, "You have seen Hell."

They went to the next room and opened the door. It was exactly the same as the first one.

There was the large round table with the large pot of stew, which made the holy man's mouth water. The people were equipped with the same long-handled spoons; here the people were well nourished and plump, laughing and talking.

The holy man said, "I don't understand."

"It is simple," said God...
"It requires but one skill. You see they have learned to feed each other, while the greedy think only of themselves."

Changes that Heal

Learning to bond

In order to grow emotionally
and spiritually, we have to bond with others. Learning to bond requires the
ingredients to life: grace, truth and practiced over time. Learning to bond
challenges our old ways of doing and thinking: “To get something you never
had, you have to do something you have never done.” Learning to bond
requires us to be vulnerable and allow the needy side of ourselves to be shown
to others. We have to let down our defenses and allow ourselves to be
relationally dependent on others. We have to open up and take a risk to the
possibility of being hurt. The following is a list of bonding skills that can
be learned and developed.

Challenge your distorted thinking

Our “old maps” keep us from
learning the new direction of where we need to go. Doing the things we have
always done causes us to repeat where we have been already. The Bible says
“Then you will know the truth and the truth will set you free” (John 8:32). It
is only with grace and truth over time, we learn our way.

Realize the need

When life is not working, we
have to ask ourselves: why? Recognizing and admitting that we have symptoms to
not bonding and barriers to bonding, gives us insight. The theme of the Bible
teaches relationship with God and the Body of Christ is needed for us to grow.
Realizing the need is the beginning to growth.

Recognize defenses

Learn to recognize the
patterns in how you are operating with others and take responsibility for your
own growth. Be the change instead of repeating old behavior: “Oh, there I go
again, taking a positive and turning it into a negative with someone who is
trying to love me. I will try and let them matter to me this time.”

Move towards others

It is wonderful when others
accept us and show us love. Bonding takes being open and proactive. Do your
best to reach out to others for help and support.

Take risks

Our old ways of thinking and
the resistance to truth, keeps us from opening new doors of relationships.
Without risk, we cannot grow, learn, or love.

Be vulnerable

Humility and vulnerability
are absolutely necessary for bonding to develop at a deep level. Vulnerability
is a skill that opens up the heart for love to take root. When you can admit
your hurts and loneliness, and ask for help and support, a new dynamic will set
in motion that will transform your personality and your life.

Soften your heart

When you begin to open your
lonely heart, your needy, and dependent feelings begin to surface. Even though
uncomfortable, these are the beginnings to the softening of our heart. Allowing
the tenderness of your heart to resurface, will give opportunity for
relationship and bonding to develop and grow.

Be empathic

Empathy is the ability to
share in another s thoughts, emotions, and needs. Empathizing with others and
identifying with their loss and pain, softens your own heart and gets you in
touch with our own hurt and loneliness.

Get in touch with your anger

Often times, people will
avoid bonding because they fear their anger at the very one whom they love and
need. It is natural to feel anger to the one you need. Because of our sinful
nature, we resent feeling dependent on God and others.

Pray and meditate

Ask God to reveal your heart
so you can see your true self. Ask God to unravel the problems of your
inability to attach with others. “ For He will deliver the needy who cry out:
the afflicted who have no one to help” (Psalms 72:12).

Rely on the Holy Spirit

When we come to the place
when we are troubled, we confess our inability and ask Him to help us. “The
Spirit helps us in our weakness” (Romans 8:26).

Say yes to life

When we are lonely and
isolated, we are saying no to relationship. Sometimes we choose to hide behind
our walls of denial, or stay too busy for relationships. When we make excuses
and avoid intimacy, we are saying no to bonding and no to life. The task of
bonding to others and God is one of saying yes to life. When we have realized
and confessed our need, taken a risk and make ourselves vulnerable, we are
saying yes to life. When we start accepting invitations as they present
themselves, we say yes to love. It may mean giving a different answer in safe
contexts when you are asked, “How are you doing?”

Conclusion

By looking at the past we
can acknowledge our reluctance for relationship. Looking at the present, we can
evaluate who is available to increase our relationships. What steps can you
take with those people to produce better attachments? How can you make time,
change your schedule, and lifestyle to increase your quality of relationships?
What difficulties do you envision encountering as you begin to challenge your
isolation? What will you do to overcome these obstacles?

She is acclaimed to be a "wife of the gods," but those forced into such servitude usually feel they are slaves of the priests, who often use them sexually, treat them harshly and inhumanely, force them to worship and serve the shrine idols, and force them to work hard without compensation and sometimes with barely enough food to keep them alive.Human trafficking is the fastest growing criminal industry in the world today,surpassing drug dealing and illegal arms trade.Experts on slavery estimate that 17 million children worldwide are held in conditions amounting to slavery. Most are in India, Pakistan,where parents drowning in poverty and debt sell their children into labor. In other regions like West Africa, (Ghana) child-traffickers arrive in villages and buy the children -- as young as 4 or 5 years old -- from parents. Some of the families know what awaits their children. Others fall for promises that the children will be educated or get jobs that will allow them to send money home.Children are held in forms of slavery all over the world, and there are examples of children smuggled into the United States to work as prostitutes. Unicef estimates that 200,000 children are enslaved by cross-border smuggling rings in West and Central Africa larger number are held in bondage in their own countries. These children work agriculture, sweatshops, fishing and domestic service, or as prostitutes.

basic and foundational ideas in life and the universe. Bonding or attachment is
our deepest and most primary spiritual and emotional need. God is relational
and He created us in His image so we were created to be relational. From the
womb, we need connection with God and others for comfort, safety, nurturing,
meaning and a general sense of belonging. The message of the Bible is
restoration and reconciliation. Loving God and others restores us back to
relationship. This is what bonding is all about.

Moral benefits from bonding and attachment

Bonding is a basis for
morality. The Bible talks of morality based on love, not on rules or principles.
A mother doesn’t hold her child because she “ought” to. She loves him and holds
the child because she feels his discomfort. A friend doesn’t visit her sick
neighbor because she “should”, rather because she cares for her neighbor’s well
being. Only compassion drives us to real sacrificial love.

In the movie “As Good as it
gets” starring Jack Nicholson, he tells his girl friend played by Helen Hunt,
“You make me want to be a better man”.
Since we often times do what is wrong, rules rarely keep us in line.
Bonding, attachments and love does a much better job of keeping us moral. When
we think of how we might hurt the one we love, more often we will follow some
code of conduct. The difference then is
we don’t to do something wrong to someone because it’s wrong; we don’t
do something wrong to someone, because we hurt him or her. The
motivation to do right is love, not obligation.

Health benefits from bonding

A person’s ability to love
and connect with others lays the foundation for mental and physical health. One
can adjust or recover more rapidly from several physical illnesses including
stress, cancer, heart attack, and stroke. Even having a pet to love and bond
with slows our heart rate. Good friends and the body of Christ provide us with
a support system in our time of need. “Carry each other’s burdens, and in this
way you will fulfill the law of Christ”
(Galatians 6:2).

Life has more meaning and purpose when we bond

When we are in a loving and
a bonded relationship, we are able to see meaning in serving others and in our
accomplishments. We are able to accomplish more on our own, when our “emotional
tanks” are full. When we are bonded to God and others our accomplishments have
a deeper meaning. Events and work have purpose instead of obligation or a
function. Instead of “task-oriented” work and service becomes “relationally
oriented”. Life becomes exciting
because bonding increases the opportunity to exercise your God given talents
and abilities which provides help and resources to others in need or of need.

There is only one God so who can God relate to?

God is not alone. He exists
and always has in relationship as three persons in one or referred to as the
Trinity. He is God the Father, God the Son, and God the Holy Spirit. This three
in one relationship is hinted to in Genesis 1:26 Then God said, “Let us
make man in our image, and in our likeness”. Jesus suggests the quality and timelessness
of the relationship when He says to His Father “you loved me before the
creation of the world” (John 14:24). Before creation, God was in a bonded and
attached relationship with His son and the Holy Spirit.

The basic identity of God is love

Relationship and bonding is
the foundation of God’s nature. The apostle John wrote, “God is love. Whoever
lives in love lives in God, and God in Him” (1 John 4:16). Love is the basic
identity of God; therefore love is basic to our identity also.

A plant needs water and
sunlight to survive. Just like a plant, we grow and thrive and need to be
“rooted and grounded” in love. We literally draw from the love of God and
others to fuel our transformation and fruit bearing.

The importance of bonding

When we are in a loving and
a bonded relationship, we are alive and growing. Our emotional and mental
well-being depends on the condition of our heart. The heart is the seat of all
our dreams, desires, goals and hope. We are told to guard our heart “for it is
the wellspring of life” (Proverbs 4:23). The condition and health of our heart
depends on our ability to bond with God and others. The Bible says “A happy
heart makes the face cheerful, but heartache crushes the spirit” (Proverbs
15:13).

What happens when the bonding process is interrupted?

Often times in life, we can
be injured at these early developmental stages including infancy, childhood,
and even early adulthood. When this occurs, we have great difficulty trusting,
being intimate, and depending on others. When we were robbed or lost our
ability to bond, we suffer from several root causes; abandonment, rejection,
loneliness and fear that will separate us from the love of God and others. When we are alone or isolated, our lives are
darkened, become chaotic and our growth is stunted.

Our need takes us back to Jesus

Because of our hurts, loss
and pain, we develop walls around us to prevent others from ever hurting us
again, or so we think. Our pride blinds us to the truth and reality that sets
us free. We rebel and try doing things our way until we hit bottom and turn to
God who is the source of relationship and bonding, and the author of love. Our
needs are the fuel to growth and healing. Relationship to God and others helps
us to meet our needs. Without such connectedness to God and others, we will
slowly wither and die, just as a branch is cut off from its vine. Jesus said, “Remain
in me, and I will remain in you. No branch can bear fruit by itself; it must
remain in the vine (John 15:44).

THE PROBLEM: TERROR, FEAR AND RAGE

What went through your mind on that fateful day, September 11, 2001 when terrorists attacked the United States! All over the world, people felt violated as terror and rage was released in a new way.

Indeed the Christian community hasn’t had much of a presence in some of the tough regions of the world, particularly the 10-40 window. How do you present the Gospel in an area where you can be killed for saying “Hallelujah” or “Praise the Lord?” How do you share the love of God in a region where it’s illegal to open a church?

THE PROMISE – “WATER WILL BE AVAILABLE!”

“There will be on every high mountain and on every high hill rivers and streams of waters, in the day of the great slaughter, when the towers fall.” (Isaiah 30:25)

What a powerful proclamation! What a definitive declaration! There will be water available in the high places and the hard places of the planet when pressure is applied in a community.

This scripture has no specific reference to the towers falling in New York City, or the thousands who died during those terrorist attacks. I really believe that the living water of Jesus Christ is going to be prominent and prevalent in every region of this earth.

THE PROVISION – “GOD WILL ASSIGN WATER BOYS!”

In order for water to be available there needs to be a delivery system! In other words there needs to be water boys and water girls available to refresh and bless people everywhere.

When I was a young boy, I was privileged to be invited by the varsity basketball coach to serve as the water boy for the varsity team. It was a high honor for me to go to the practices and the games and refresh the players when they came off the court. I would give them drinking water and a towel and that simple assignment helped encourage them to stay on the playing floor, the real battle zone, to go for victory!

In like fashion we are called to connect with people, in mutual faith to refresh them and bless them so they are better equipped to do the work of God in their regions of the earth.

The assignment God has given us is to teach and release 10,000 LIFE Cells in regions of the world where there are ‘terror cells.’ These ‘terrorist cells’ have a tremendous impact on the work of church ministries. Churches have been attacked and burned to the ground. Reports have come in that leaders were killed by the extremist groups.

THE PROCESS – “HOW TO CONNECT WITH RAGING PEOPLE!”

The Lord has given a model for ministry. He gave an assignment to one named Ananias to go and connect and communicate with a terror filled man named Saul. (Acts 9) Saul was bringing havoc and terror against the church.

The Lord spoke to Ananias and commissioned him to go and talk to the terror filled man, Saul. Ananias didn’t like the idea! I’m convinced that there are many times God will speak to our spirit about doing His will and it will frustrate our flesh. Many times what God speaks for us to do for the purpose of His Kingdom will cost us time, money or other precious commodities that we so value. Eventually, Ananias was brave enough to be obedient to take the assignment and go talk to this raging man.

Years later Saul who became Paul gave testimony as to what Ananias said to him, the words that were used that preserved him from terrorism.

“The God of our fathers has chosen you that you should know His will and see the Just One and hear the voice of His mouth. For you will be His witness to all men of what you have seen and heard.” (Acts 22:14,15)

These five principles are so powerful! According to Paul, these are the truths that allowed him to triumph over terror! Think of what was actually said:

1. GOD HAS CHOSEN YOU. (YOU ARE LOVED!)

This is the most refreshing phrase of the human heart! Men and women everywhere are redeemable! God is on your side!

2. YOU SHOULD KNOW HIS WILL! (YOU CAN KNOW HIS PERFECT PLAN!)

In other words you don’t need to be disillusioned any longer. You can have a clue as to what to do! God can give you the details for every aspect of your life.

3. YOU SHOULD SEE THE JUST ONE. (EXPERIENCE JESUS!)

This is the son, His name is Jesus, we call Him our Savior! This is where you communicate the reality of the cross! The death, the burial, the resurrection of Jesus Christ!

4. YOU SHOULD HEAR HIS VOICE. (INTIMACY WITH GOD!)

How refreshing that we don’t just need to embrace religion but we can have genuine relationship! God wants to fellowship and commune with His kids!

5. YOU SHOULD BE HIS WITNESS. (GIVE LIFE AWAY!)

This is what all of us are privileged to do, to tell others the Good News! In other words we can be the water boys! We can be the water girls! We can bless and refresh the human race so people can embrace His love. This is the system that we’ve been assigned!

THE PLAN – HOW TO IMPLEMENT THIS SIMPLE ASSIGNMENT

Our goal? To teach and release 10,000 LIFE Cells just like Ananias! We are conducting Training Camps in various nations all around the world. We are bringing leaders from these troubled spots of the world and helping them go incognito back into these communities to connect with one person full of rage, terror and frustration! We show them how to get an assignment by the Spirit of God like Ananias received.

Additionally we are providing the training materials for this model of ministry that Ananias used. Also we are releasing these precious brothers and sisters back into their region by praying for them and laying hands on them as they go forth as a water delivery system into their communities.

Counting the cost! As we prayerfully pursue this assignment, we of course must count the cost! We believe that we can teach and release a LIFE Cell for as little as $22. In other words a one-time gift of $22 will allow us to connect with a believer within these communities and teach and train them the Ananias model of ministry.

Our target goal is to sponsor 10,000 LIFE Leaders! (Total needed: $220,000). We are inviting families and churches to sponsor one LIFE Leader as a special missions outreach. In other words if every family unit could believe God for a one time gift of $22 to do something practical and powerful right now to reach out to people who are plagued with raging terrorist world views.

Dear God,

Happy Thanksgiving!
Thankfulness is an expression of the heart. Thankfulness follows contentment. A person who is content is grateful and satisfied with whatever they have. They think of God and others and not only of themselves. “Let the hearts of those who seek the Lord rejoice” (1Chronicles 16:10).
Why should we be thankful?
It's easy to be thankful for the good times. Quality of life comes to those who are thankful for the setbacks. Gratitude can turn a setback into a comeback. Realize that your difficulties make you grow and mature. A thankful attitude can turn a negative into a positive. “So then, just as received Christ Jesus as Lord, continue to live in Him, rooted and built up in Him, strengthen in the faith as you were taught, and overflowing with thankfulness”(Colossians 2:6). Be thankful that you don't have everything you desire. If you did, what would there be to look forward to? Be thankful when you don't have something; it gives you the opportunity to show appreciation. “Through Jesus therefore, let us continually offer to God a sacrifice of praise – the fruit of lips that confess His name” (Hebrews 13:15).
Be thankful for your limitations, because they give you opportunity to improve. Be thankful for each new challenge, because it will build your strength and character. Be thankful for your mistakes. They will teach you valuable lessons. During those times you grow. Be thankful for when you are tired and weary, because it means you have made a difference. “But thanks be to God! He gives us the victory through our Lord Jesus Christ” (1 Corinthians 15:57).
How can we to express thankfulness?
True thankfulness toward God motivates a person to express it by act of praise, worship, and service to others. Genuine thankfulness is best recognized in the person who continues to press in to their faith in God even in the most extreme difficulties and hardships. “But let all who take refuge in you be glad; let them ever sing for joy. Spread your protection over them, that those who love your name may rejoice in you” (Psalms 5:11).
What happens when we are thankful?
God uses our character, experiences and circumstances to produce something of value in us. Experiences that would ordinarily harm you can turn out to be the very thing that makes you wiser, stronger and better. "Consider it pure joy, my brothers, whenever you face trials of many kinds, because you know that the testing of your faith develops perseverance. Perseverance must finish its work so that you may be mature and complete, not lacking anything" (James 1:2-4).

The Bible commands us to pray for the peace of Jerusalem (Psalm 122:6), to speak out for Zion’s sake (Isaiah 62:1), to be watchmen on the walls of Jerusalem (Isaiah 62:6) and to bless the Jewish people (Genesis 12:3). These and so many other verses of the Bible that have one overriding message-- as Christians we have a Biblical obligation to defend Israel and the Jewish people in their time of need.

Israel’s time of need is now. There is a new Hitler in the Middle East --President Ahmadinejad of Iran -- who has threatened to wipe out Israel and America and is rapidly acquiring the nuclear technology to make good on his threat. If we learned anything from the Holocaust, it is that when a madman threatens genocide we must take him seriously.

During the Holocaust, too many Christians were silent, and we were left to mourn the slaughter of 6 million Jews. Today, Bible-believing Christians must speak up and stand up for Israel. We must act to do whatever we can to protect Israel’s 6 million Jews from the second Holocaust. We must get it right this time. Our faith demands it. The times require it. Silence is not an option.

Worshipping God

Worship is comprised
of parts or elements including hearing God’s Word, praying, meditating, singing
and bringing gifts of tithes and offerings. “I will sacrifice a thank offering
to you and call on the name of the Lord. I will fulfill my vows to the Lord in
the presence of all His people” (Psalm 116:17-18). Worship also includes the
celebration of both baptism and communion.

Worship describes our human
response to divine revelation. God has said something and we respond to it.
Worship is an active and open declaration to God of His worth in an intimate
and spontaneous manner allowing Him to touch us with His life-transforming
presence.

Why should we worship?

Because our God is great
and worthy of all praise. “Come, let
us sing for joy to the Lord; let us shout aloud to the Rock of our salvation”
(Psalm 95:1)

We were made to worship. The primary purpose of the church and all believers
in Jesus Christ is to glorify the Lord our God. “Ascribe to the Lord, O
families of nations, ascribe to the Lord glory and strength. Ascribe to the
Lord the glory due his name; bring an offering and come into his courts.
Worship the Lord in the splendor of his holiness; tremble before him, all the
earth”(Psalm 96:7-9).

We connect with the
living God. In worship we become preoccupied
with the Lord. We don’t just watch it take place we participate in it! ”Praise
the Lord. Praise the name of the Lord; praise him you servants of the Lord, you
who minister in the house of the Lord, in the courts of the house of our God”
(Psalm135: 1-2).

What happens when we worship?

When we worship, our God
is magnified. “For God is the King
of all the earth; sing to Him a psalm of praise. God reins over the nations;
God is seated on His holy throne” (Psalm 47:7-8).

Worship enlarges our
horizons and changes our perspectives.
Praise and worship is the language of faith. “I will exalt you, O Lord, for you
lifted me out of the depths and did not let my enemies gloat over me. O Lord my
God, I called to you for help and you healed me” (Psalm 30:1-2).

Worship enhances our
lives with an attitude of praise and thanksgiving. “Enter His gates with thanksgiving and His courts
with praise; give thanks to Him and praise His name” (Psalm 100:4).

Worship renews our spirit
as we stand in awe at His glory and grace. “Be still and know that I AM God” (Psalm 46:10). “Glory in His holy
name; let the hearts of those who seek the Lord rejoice” (Psalm 105:3).

GOD'S CAKE

Sometimes we wonder, 'What did I do to deserve this?' or 'Why did God have to do this to me?' Here is a wonderful explanation!

A daughter is telling her mother how everything is going wrong: she's failing algebra; her boyfriend broke up with her and her best friend is moving away.
Meanwhile, her Mother is baking a cake and asks her daughter if she would like a snack, and the daughter says, 'Absolutely, Mom, I love your cake'

'Here, have some cooking oil,' her Mother offers. 'Yuck,' says her daughter.

'How about a couple raw eggs?' 'Gross, Mom!'
'Would you like some flour then? Or maybe baking soda?'

'Mom, those are all yucky!'

To which the mother replies: 'Yes, all those things seem bad by themselves. But when they are put together in the right way, they make a wonderfully delicious cake!

God works the same way. Many times we wonder why He would let us go through such bad and difficult times. But God knows that when He puts these things all in His order, they always work for good! We just have to trust Him and, eventually, they will all make something wonderful!

God is crazy about you. He sends you flowers every spring and a sunrise every morning.

Whenever you want to talk, He'll listen. He can live anywhere in the universe, and He chose your heart.

Granpa's Hands

Grandpa's Hands.......

Grandpa, some ninety plus years, sat feebly on the patio bench.
He didn't move, just sat with his head down staring at his hands.

When I sat down beside him he didn't acknowledge my presence and the
longer I sat I wondered if he was OK.

Finally, not really wanting to disturb him but wanting to check on him
at the same time, I asked him if he was OK. He raised his head and
looked at me and smiled. 'Yes, I'm fine, thank you for asking,' he
said in a clear voice strong.

'I didn't mean to disturb you, grandpa, but you were just sitting here
staring at your hands and I wanted to make sure you were OK,' I
explained to him.

'Have you ever looked at your hands,' he asked. 'I mean really
looked at your hands?'

I slowly opened my hands and stared down at them. I turned them
over, palms up and then palms down. No, I guess I had never really looked at
my hands as I tried to figure out the point he was making.

Grandpa smiled and related this story:

'Stop and think for a moment about the hands you have, how they have
served you well throughout your years. These hands, though wrinkled
shriveled and weak have been the tools I have used all my life to
reach out and grab and embrace life.

'They braced and caught my fall when as a toddler I crashed upon the
floor.

They put food in my mouth and clothes on my back. As a child, my
mother taught me to fold them in prayer. They tied my shoes and pulled
on my boots.

'They have been dirty, scraped and raw , swollen and bent. They were
uneasy and clumsy when I tried to hold my newborn son and daughter. Decorated
with my wedding band they showed the world that I was married and loved someone
special.

They wrote my letters to my children and trembled and shook when I
buried my parents.

'They have held my children and grandchildren, consoled neighbors, and
shook in fists of anger when I didn't understand.

They have covered my face, combed my hair, and washed and cleansed the
rest of my body. They have been sticky and wet, bent and broken, dried
and raw. And to this day when not much of anything else of me works
real well these hands hold me up, lay me down, and again continue to
fold in prayer.

'These hands are the mark of where I've been and the ruggedness of life.

But more importantly it will be these hands that God will reach out
and take when he leads me home. And with my hands He will lift me to
His side and there I will use these hands to touch the face of Christ.'

I will never look at my hands the same again. But I remember God
reached out and took my grandma's hands and led her home.

When my hands are hurt or sore or when I stroke the face of my
children and wife I think of grandpa. I know he has been stroked and
caressed and held by the hands of God.

I, too, want to touch the face of God and feel His hands upon my face.

When you receive this, say a prayer for the person who sent it to
you, and watch God's answer to prayer work in your life. Let's continue
praying for one another.

Said York we're here dear Brother with the vestries approbation
To discuss a little matter that affects the congregation
Now it seems that your voice has interfered with the choir

Testimony Tony Snow

This is an outstanding personal testimony by Tony Snow, President Bush's former Press Secretary, and his fight with cancer. As a commentator and journalist, he announced that he had colon cancer in 2005. Following surgery and chemo, Tony joined the Bush Administration in April, 2006 as Press Secretary. Unfortunately, on March 23, 2007, Tony, age 51 and a husband and father of three, announced that the cancer had recurred, with tumors found in his abdomen. This lead to surgery in April, followed by more chemotherapy. He returned to work in the White House Briefing Room on May 3, 2007, but resigned some time after that 'for economic reasons and to pursue other interests. He wrote this testimony some time after his departure from the White House and it needs little intro . . . it speaks for itself.

MY TESTIMONY

'Blessings arrive in unexpected packages, - in my case, cancer. Those of us with potentially fatal diseases - and there are millions in America today - find ourselves in the odd position of coping with our mortality while trying to fathom God's will. Although it would be the height of presumption to declare with confidence 'What It All Means,' Scripture provides powerful hints and consolations.

The first is that we shouldn't spend too much time trying to answer the 'why' questions: Why me? Why must people suffer? Why can't someone else get sick? We can't answer such things. And the questions themselves often are designed more to express our anguish than to solicit an answer.

I don't know why I have cancer, and I don't much care. It is what it is, a plain and indisputable fact. Yet even while staring into a mirror darkly, great and stunning truths began to take shape. Our maladies define a central feature of our existence: We are fallen. We are imperfect. Our bodies give out.

But, despite this, - or because of it, - God offers the possibility of salvation and grace. We don't know how the narrative of our lives will end, but we get to choose how to use the interval between now and the moment we meet our Creator face-to-face.

Second, we need to get past the anxiety. The mere thought of dying can send adrenaline flooding through your system. A dizzy, unfocused panic seizes you. Your heart thumps; your head swims. You think of nothingness and swoon. You fear partings; you worry about the impact on family and friends. You fidget and get nowhere.

To regain footing, remember that we were born not into death, but into life - and that the journey continues after we have finished our days on this earth. We accept this on faith, but that faith is nourished by a conviction that stirs even within many non-believing hearts - an institution that the gift of life, once given, cannot be taken away. Those who have been stricken enjoy the special privilege of being able to fight with their might, main, and faith to live fully, richly, exuberantly - no matter how their days may be numbered.

Third, we can open our eyes and hearts. God relishes surprise. We want lives of simple, predictable ease, - smooth, even trails as far as the eye can see, - but God likes to go off-road. He provokes us with twists and turns. He places us in predicaments that seem to defy our endurance and comprehension - and yet don't. By His love and grace, we persevere. The challenges that make our hearts leap and stomachs churn invariably strengthen our faith and grant measures of wisdom and joy we would not experience otherwise.

'You Have Been Called'. Picture yourself in a hospital bed. The fog of anesthesia has begun to wear away. A doctor stands at your feet, a loved one holds your hand at the side. 'It's cancer,' the healer announces.

The natural reaction is to turn to God and ask him to serve as a cosmic Santa. 'Dear God, make it all go away. Make everything simpler.' But another voice whispers: 'You have been called.' Your quandary has drawn you closer to God, closer to those you love, closer to the issues that matter, - and has dragged into insignificance the banal concerns that occupy our 'normal time.'

There's another kind of response, although usually short-lived, an inexplicable shudder of excitement as if a clarifying moment of calamity has swept away everything trivial and tiny, and placed before us the challenge of important questions.

The moment you enter the Valley of the Shadow of Death, things change. You discover that Christianity is not something doughy, passive, pious, and soft. Faith may be the substance of things hoped for, the evidence of things not seen. But it also draws you into a world scorn of fearful caution. The life of belief teems with thrills, boldness, danger, shocks, reversals, triumphs, and epiphanies. Think of Paul, traipsing through the known world and contemplating trips to what must have seemed the antipodes (Spain), shaking the dust from his sandals, worrying not about the morrow, but only about the moment.

There's nothing wilder than a life of humble virtue, - for it is through selflessness and service that God wrings from our bodies and spirits the most we ever could give, the most we ever could offer, and the most we ever could do.

Finally, we can let love change everything. When Jesus was faced with the prospect of crucifixion, he grieved not for himself, but for us. He cried for Jerusalem before entering the Holy City. From the Cross, he took on the cumulative burden of human sin and weakness, and begged for forgiveness on our behalf.

We get repeated chances to learn that life is not about us, that we acquired purpose and satisfaction by sharing in God's love for others. Sickness gets us part way there. It reminds us of our limitations and dependence. But it also gives us a chance to serve the healthy. A minister friend of mine observes that people suffering grave afflictions often acquire the faith of two people, while loved ones accept the burden of two peoples' worries and fears.

'Learning How to Live'. Most of us have watched friends as they drifted toward God's arms, not with resignation, but with peace and hope. In so doing, they have taught us not how to die, but how to live. They have emulated Christ by transmitting the power and authority of live.

I sat by my best friend's bedside a few years ago as a wasting cancer took him away. He kept at his table a worn Bible and a 1928 edition of the Book of Common Prayer. A shattering grief disabled his family, many of his old friends, and at least one priest. Here was an humble and very good guy, someone who apologized when he winced with pain because he thought it made his guest uncomfortable. He restrained his equanimity and good humor literally until his last conscious moment. 'I'm going to try to beat [this cancer],' he told me several months before he died. 'But if I don't, I'll see you on the other side.'

His gift was to remind everyone around him that even though God doesn't promise us tomorrow, he does promise us eternity - filled with life and love we cannot comprehend, - and that one can, in the throes of sickness, point the rest of us toward timeless truths that will help us weather future storms.

Through such trials, God bids us to choose: Do we believe, or do we not? Will we be bold enough to love, daring enough to serve, humble enough to submit, and strong enough to acknowledge our limitations? Can we surrender our concern in things that don't matter so that we might devote our remaining days to things that do?

When our faith flags, He throws reminders in our way. Think of the prayer warriors in our midst. They change things, and those of us who have been on the receiving end of their petitions and intercessions know it. It is hard to describe, but there are times when suddenly the hairs on the back of your neck stand up, and you feel a surge of the Spirit. Somehow you just know: Others have chosen, when talking to the Author of all creation, to lift us up, - to speak of us!

This is love of a very special order. But so is the ability to sit back and appreciate the wonder of every created thing. The mere thought of death somehow makes every blessing vivid, every happiness more luminous and intense. We may not know how our contest with sickness will end, but we have felt the ineluctable touch of God.

What is man that Thou are mindful of him? We don't know much, but we know this: No matter where we are, no matter what we do, no matter how bleak or frightening our prospects, each and every one of us who believe each and every day, lies in the same safe and impregnable place, in the hollow of God's hand.'

There’s good news from the graveyard this morning.
Good news that the tomb is empty.
Good news that Jesus rose from the dead.
Good news that the devil couldn’t hold him.
Good news that death has lost its sting.
Good news that the grave has lost its victory.
Good news that we need not fear death any more.

As far as I know my heart this morning, I am not afraid to die. Not because I am especially brave. For I am not. But I know what’s on the other side. My Lord has come back and told me what I can expect. I don’t have anything to worry about.

If you hear that I have died tonight, when you bury me, stick up a sign that says, “Temporary residence.” I’m coming back up. You can count on it. I say that without any sense of pride or boasting. For my resurrection does not depend on me.
It does not depend on my good deeds.
It does not depend on any merit in me at all.

It depends solely and wholly on my Lord Jesus Christ, who rose from the dead on Easter Sunday morning. He promised that if I would trust in him, someday I would rise with him. I’ve staked my entire life on that promise. If it’s not true, I have no other hope.

But it is true. That’s why I don’t plan on staying dead forever.
Don’t Look in the Graveyard
Good news from the graveyard? That’s a strange place for good news. But that’s what Easter is all about. If you’re looking for Jesus today, don’t look in the graveyard. He isn’t there. He left the graveyard 2,000 years ago and never went back.

The really good news is this … If you are looking for Jesus today, you can meet him right now. May I introduce you to him? His name is Jesus of Nazareth. He is the Son of God from heaven. God so loved you that he sent Jesus to die on the cross for you. He was buried in Joseph’s tomb. He rose from the dead on Easter Sunday morning. He paid for your sins so that if you believe in him you will never perish but have everlasting life.

Are you trusting the One who rose from the dead? Jesus is alive and standing with open arms inviting you to accept his offer of eternal life. The door to Heaven is wide open. I invite you to take a step of faith and allow Jesus to prove to you that he is alive. I extend to you a personal invitation to consider becoming a Christian: If your soul is hungry for something more than you have found, try Jesus. If Jesus is knocking on the door of your heart, make sure you open the door.

Each of us has an appointment with death sooner or later. But that is a cause for rejoicing—not for fear, provided we have put our trust in the One who holds the keys of life and death. Here is the final proof that death has been destroyed. When Jesus rose from the dead, he left the door to the tomb wide open. That means we won’t have to fight our way out of the grave when he calls us to wake up. He left the door open 2,000 years ago. That is God’s guarantee that even though we die, we won’t stay dead forever.

One final word and I am done. Perhaps you’ve seen the billboard with a picture of Jesus hanging on the cross. Underneath the picture are three words: “It’s your move.”

Jesus died on the cross. It’s your move now.
Jesus rose from the dead. It’s your move now.

God has answered our deepest questions with the simplicity of an empty tomb. On this happy Easter morning I declare to you that Jesus Christ is alive. My friend, what will you say to that? What difference does it make to you? Will you give him your heart and your life? Will you trust him as Lord and Savior?

God's Love
"God so loved the world that He gave His one and only Son, that whoever believes in Him shall not perish, but have eternal life" (John 3:16 NIV).

God's Plan
[Christ speaking] "I came that they might have life, and might have it abundantly" [that it might be full and meaningful] (John 10:10).

Man Is Sinful
"All have sinned and fall short of the glory of God" (Romans 3:23). Man was created to have fellowship with God; but, because of his stubborn self-will, he chose to go his own independent way, and fellowship with God was broken. This self-will, characterized by an attitude of active rebellion or passive indifference, is evidence of what the Bible calls sin.

He Died in Our Place
"God demonstrates His own love toward us, in that while we were yet sinners, Christ died for us" (Romans 5:8).

He Rose From the Dead
"Christ died for our sins...He was buried...He was raised on the third day, according to the Scriptures...He appeared to Peter, then to the twelve. After that He appeared to more than five hundred..." (1 Corinthians 15:3-6).

He Is the Only Way to God
"Jesus said to him, 'I am the way, and the truth, and the life; no one comes to the Father, but through Me'" (John 14:6).

We Must Receive Christ
"As many as received Him, to them He gave the right to become children of God, even to those who believe in His name" (John 1:12).

We Receive Christ Through Faith
"By grace you have been saved through faith; and that not of yourselves, it is the gift of God; not as a result of works, that no one should boast" (Ephesians 2:8,9).

When We Receive Christ, We Experience a New Birth

We Receive Christ by Personal Invitation
[Christ speaking] "Behold, I stand at the door and knock; if any one hears My voice and opens the door, I will come in to him" (Revelation 3:20).

You can receive Christ right now by faith through prayer:

"Lord Jesus, I need You. Thank You for dying on the cross for my sins. I open the door of my life and receive You as my Savior and Lord. Thank You for forgiving my sins and giving me eternal life. Take control of the throne of my life. Make me the kind of person You want me to be."

Herods Tomb

King Herod's tomb was found by Prof. Ehud Netzer of the Hebrew University of Jerusalem Institute of Archaeology. The long search has ended. Excavation started in 2006 and it was in may of 2007. The Heredium complex is King Herod's largest and most distinguished landmark that was built. The Tomb was found in this complex.
